Five Yoga poses for moms to stay energized

Upward Salute (Inhale)

Begin standing with feet hip-width distance apart and arms turned outward so palms face away from your torso. Inhale as you sweep your arms out and up toward the ceiling. Extend your elbows and reach up through your pinky fingers. Tip your head back slightly to gaze at your thumbs.

Forward Fold (Exhale)

From your upward salute, exhale as you bend forward at the hips and lengthen the front of your torso as you graze the floor with your fingertips. Let the crown of your head hang down as you press your heels into the floor and lift your sit bones toward the ceiling.

Plank (Inhale)/Low Plank (Exhale)

From forward fold, place both hands on the ground in front of you and step both feet back for plank pose. Inhale as you push away from the ground so that your arms are perpendicular to the floor and shoulders are directly over the wrists. Torso is parallel to the floor as you press outer arms inward and press the thighs up toward the ceiling. For low plank, firm the shoulder blades against your back ribs and keep elbows rucked in by the sides of the torso. Exhale as you slowly lower your torso and legs to hover parallel above the ground.

Upward Facing Dog (Inhale)

Inhale as you push your body forward by pressing through your palms and rolling over your toes. Align your shoulders under your wrists, straighten your arms and broaden your chest. Press down through the tops of your feet as your engage the muscles in your legs and keep your thighs lifted.

Downward Facing Dog (Exhale)

Exhale as you bring your pelvis up and toward the ceiling. Lift your knees away from the floor, keeping them slightly bent, and lift heels away from the ground. Lengthen the tailbone away from the pelvis and lift the sit bones toward the ceiling. Firm the outer thighs and roll upper thighs inward. Firm the outer arms and press palms firmly into the ground.
