Open and Filled With Light:

Recipe Girl Founder Lori Lange Shares Her Renovated Kitchen

Recipe developer, cookbook author and the founder of RecipeGirl.com Lori Lange shared her home renovation "before" process in February. With the home and notably the kitchen space completed, Lori reflects on her vision coming to life.

"With this remodel, I hoped to create a warm, inviting, farmhouse-modern-style home with a lot of natural light," she says. "The new design is a draw for the companies I partner with, who are happy to see such a beautiful background for my food photography and recipe videos."

Features and Vendors

McKenzie Architectural Kitchens created the new layout of the kitchen.

"We decided to gut the kitchen and start from scratch, creating more function. We took out all of the original arches, the new appliances are all in easy reach of the large basin sink, and putting in a range instead of separate ovens means we have more space for our bar area."

Cabico Cabinetry created custom upgrades for the kitchen island and wood-stained range hood.

"We chose white cabinetry on the exterior of the kitchen with cabinets that were built to fill space all the way to the ceiling. Making use of the height of the cabinetry means we have a lot more storage space than the previous layout, and the white background gives our kitchen a light and bright feel. Seafoam green custom cabinetry on the island adds a little color to the white kitchen, and a custom wood range hood is a focal showpiece."

Innovative Wine Cellar Designs designed and built a refrigerated glass wine wall.

"We're wine lovers, so we took out a divider wall between the family room and the kitchen and replaced it with a floor-to-ceiling, refrigerated glass wine wall to house a nice collection of wines."

NanaWall Systems opened up the wall in the living area to the backyard and put in a folding glass wall.

"It lets in so much light, and the sunset views are visible from everywhere in our kitchen and living area."

Cactus Stone and Tile installed the quartz countertops and leathered marble fireplace, Metro West Flooring installed Mediterranean oak wood floors, Superior Sun Solutions installed motorized retractable sun shades in the backyard patio and Leslie Paige Interiors did the consultation on tile choices and fireplace design.

"Shooting photos is so much better with the large amount of natural light coming into the house, and it's the perfect space for entertaining too. We've created such a comfortable place to live," Lori says.

"My favorite features of the remodel include the wine wall, a showpiece that welcomes guests as they enter our home; and the glass NanaWall that opens up to the backyard, bringing in a lot of natural light and allowing us to utilize an indoor/outdoor space for entertaining with friends and family."
