Where Pumpkins Meet Adventure This Fall

Discover family-friendly farms and carnival-style fun in our region

Fall has officially arrived, and with it comes the perfect excuse to take a day off, pick out pumpkins, try delicious seasonal creations, and enjoy a day outdoors. Our region is filled with farms and pumpkin patches that go far beyond simple gourds. Think giant corn mazes, rides, petting zoos, and shows that can easily fill an entire day of family fun.

While Apple Hill will always be the iconic, close-to-home favorite—with dozens of U-pick farms, caramel apples, and beautiful backdrops—if you’re also up for a little road trip, you’ll find pumpkin patches boasting world-record attractions, charming small-town vibes, and activities to keep the kiddos busy. These destinations bring adventure, unique experiences, and plenty of opportunities to make lasting fall memories. Whether you’re chasing the thrill of a giant maze or simply looking for a fun outing with family and friends, there’s a pumpkin patch in our region calling your name this season.

Here are some of the coolest pumpkin patches and harvest destinations to explore, all within an hour’s drive from El Dorado Hills:

Cool Patch Pumpkins – Dixon
For “go big or go home” pumpkin fun! Home to a Guinness World Record-holding corn maze, the farm also features pumpkin cannons, a “corn bath,” hayrides, and a kid-friendly Fun Zone with slides and games. Food trucks, pumpkin decorating stations, and seasonal vendors add even more excitement. With adventure at every turn and endless photo opportunities, this massive farm is perfect for families and friends.

Bishop’s Pumpkin Farm – Wheatland
Bishop’s is a beloved Northern California tradition for good reason. Visitors can explore multiple corn mazes, several carnival-type rides including a train and carousel, meet farm animals at the petting zoo, and snack on fresh-baked pies and other delicious goodies. There are also fun shows on the weekends like pig races, stunt dogs, puppet shows, and live music. This farm is your one-stop shop for amazing fun!

Fog Willow Farms – Wilton
Nestled in the quiet countryside, Fog Willow is a fall favorite for families with young children. From pumpkin picking and hayrides to barnyard obstacle courses and pony rides, there’s no shortage of things to do. The petting zoo—home to more than 50 animals you can feed and cuddle—is always a highlight. With its creekside charm and hands-on “edu-tainment,” Fog Willow celebrates the harvest season without the typical Halloween-style setting.

Dave’s Pumpkin Patch at Vierra Farms – West Sacramento

Delighting families for more than 30 years, Dave’s is big, bustling, and full of variety. At the heart of the experience is “The Cornival”—a fall carnival packed with live entertainment, rides, and games. Jump on the oversized pillow, wander through a meticulously designed corn maze, ride hay wagons or ponies—all while enjoying farm-fresh treats like BBQ, their famous apple cider donuts, and local produce from their farmstands.
