When the winter chill departs and the sun begins to warm the mid-Atlantic, May and June are some of my favorite and most magical months in Maryland. The lush gardens, historic landmarks, and scenic waterfronts are bursting into bloom, making ideal backdrops for engagement photos. Brookside Gardens (Wheaton, MD)
First up, a 50-acre paradise, Brookside Gardens is a perennial favorite for couples. In May and June, the rose and azalea gardens are in full bloom, creating a vibrant, romantic atmosphere just begging for you to fall in love all over again in the moment. Early mornings and late afternoons offer the best lighting and fewer crowds.
Patapsco Valley State Park (Ellicott City, MD)
Towering trees, swinging bridges (oh yes!!!), and the rushing river offer a touch of adventure and natural beauty. The park’s various trails and stone ruins also provide unique, rustic backdrops for couples seeking a blend of nature and history. If you are a fan of cinematic or black and white prints, it’s one of my favorite spots.
Espior Grove (Deale, MD)
This Southern Maryland gem is ideal for nature lovers, families, couples, and events. New in 2026 it’s tidal marshes, and breathtaking sunsets makes a serene, intimate choice for photos. Booking and access information is available through Camley Images.
Great Falls Park (Potomac, MD/Virginia side)
The dramatic waterfalls and rugged cliffs of the Potomac River offer breathtaking scenery for adventurous couples. Early summer mornings are especially beautiful and less crowded. Getting low near the water in a safe manner can be extremely dangerous, ensure you are with a well versed local and listen to them. Safety first.
Downtown Annapolis (Annapolis, MD)
Cobblestone streets, historic architecture, and waterfront views make Maryland’s capital a charming spot for urban and nautical-themed shoots. I personally love sessions in Annapolis. If offers almost everything for every client, and of course the amazing Maryland seafood to indulge in.
Sugarloaf Mountain (Dickerson, MD)
A natural landmark beloved for its sweeping views, wildflowers, and rustic trails—ideal for outdoor couples seeking a blend of adventure and romance. Just minutes away the fabulous Sugarloaf vineyards, a great backdrop also offering local vines and wines.
Glenview Mansion & Rock Creek Park (Rockville, MD)
The stately mansion and its manicured formal gardens provide elegant backdrops, while nearby Rock Creek Park’s wooded trails offer natural beauty in every direction.
Old Town Alexandria (Alexandria, VA)
Within easy reach, the colorful row houses, cobblestone streets, and riverfront parks are perfect for couples who love a blend of history and urban excitement.
