There are many fitness and workout center options for residents across the Valley, but there are some that focus on some very specific styles to help you get fit, including Club Pilates Ahwatukee.

Club Pilates Ahwatukee (ClubPilates.com/location/ahwatukee) is a boutique Pilates studio specializing in reformer fusion classes for anyone, at any age or fitness level. Club Pilates, originally created by Joseph Pilates, is a modernized take on the practice and training, with expanded state-of-the-art equipment. According to owner Stephanie Schissler, they are aiming to reinvent and reform how people approach exercise.

“Club Pilates offers high-quality, life-changing training options aiming to give our community a chance to experience all we have to offer.”

Schissler’s Pilates journey is more than a decade old, after figuring out she needed to find an enduring fitness routine to help her relieve the stress associated with being an overworked businesswoman. She not only joined Pilates, but she become a certified instructor and now, she is the owner of this and future Club Pilates Studios.

“Pilates changed my life in the most positive ways, not only physically but mentally,” adds Schissler. “It is incredibly rewarding to be able to bring Pilates to the Ahwatukee community.”

Here are a few things Schissler suggests you should know about Pilates, that can help you make the best decisions to meet your fitness goals.

Pilates is not just for women.

Pilates is a full-body workout that increases core strength, decreases lower back pain, eliminates stress on joints, boosts heart health and more. It is fantastic for both men and women and was developed by a man to help rehabilitate injured soldiers during World War I.

Pilates is not just for fitness.

Pilates works toward functional fitness including the ability to have strength, balance and flexibility to help you move through daily life free of injury and pain. Pilates exercises increase flexibility and improve range of motion for day-to-day activities as well as those more stressful activities.

Pilates is a great way to get introduced to fitness.

If you’ve never committed to a dedicated fitness program, Pilates is a good place to start. The key is to be consistent and commit to two to three sessions per week to help achieve your goals and realize the full benefits. Pilates is about concentration, control and precision because you will only achieve results by doing movements in proper form.

Pilates can be done without equipment.

Pilates has exercises that suit every body type and fitness level. Get started by taking a few private sessions, where you can find a rhythm and success with one-on-one attention who can lay out your goals and steps to achieve them.

Good

Professional athletes can benefit from Pilates as a way to get that performance edge and as a healthy preventative measure.

Better

Pilates is not the best for those trying to bulk up, but it is a great way to strengthen your core while lengthening and toning muscles.

Best

Pilates is a great way to help control or lose weight without the fear of serious injury. It helps build lean muscle and improve posture. Because it works the deepest muscles in your core, it is the best option for losing belly fat.
