Rendezvous Café and Wine Bar Bids Nod to Europe

Nestled in the heart of downtown O’Fallon is a quaint restaurant and bar, aptly named the Rendezvous Café and Wine Bar. Upon entering, you feel as if you are entering a cafe in the heart of Paris. The décor of the cafe, and style of food, gives the distinct feel of a European setting and pays homage to the culture and history of France, a favorite destination of owners Tom and Stephanie Thomson.

Established in 2007, the couple has truly made their establishment into a gathering place for the community at large, by using food, wine, beer, and entertainment as a gateway to experiencing the destination that captured their hearts.“We wanted Rendezvous to be a destination and not just a cafe and coffee shop,” says Stephanie. “We have regulars who come in several times a day, and have had multiple bridal and baby showers by the same families in our banquet facilities. This is what makes doing business fun -- when people keep returning and become part of the Rendezvous family."

The business truly is a "family affair," with daughter Kim serving as General Manager. And it's an award-winning business at that. Rendezvous Cafe & Wine Bar was named Small Business of the Year in 2018 by the O'Fallon Chamber of Commerce & Industries.

Like its European counterpart, the building has a long history in the city of O'Fallon. It was erected in 1933 as a propane gas and electric business, then purchased by the Ginnever's who opened a television sales and repair business in the early '50s. Residents would bring their lawn chairs and watch the Saturday night fights from the sidewalk in front of the building. The building was also used for other businesses such as an appliance sales and repair shop, a barber shop, and a pizza restaurant.

Events at Rendezvous include wine dinners, beer tastings, a comedy club that has been performing there for more than six years, live music, painting classes, and Tarot card readings, to name a few. Seeking an event space? The Tuscan banquet room holds up to 65 people and the Provence Room can seat up to 16 people. For more information on all events, visit RendezvousCafeAndWineBar.com.
