For Andy Ozenne and Patrick Jones, designing the Whiskey Fox app has been a dream and a labor of love. Guest insights have shaped its evolution from a digital tasting log into a platform offering educational content and palate-based personalization.
They’re just getting started helping people grow their whiskey IQ and explore flavors with confidence.
“The platform is not just a reflection of the feedback from our past events, but it will continue to evolve based on our membership,” says Ozenne. “In many ways, they are co-authors of what we are building.”
Whiskey Fox provides a welcoming space to learn, experiment, and connect. It’s about stepping outside of your usual pour, perhaps with an old fashioned cocktail.
“The old fashioned is the oldest American cocktail, but it represents what makes whiskey unique in so many ways,” says Jones. “It has three ingredients: whiskey, sugar, and bitters. Yet, an old fashioned can be created in myriad ways.”
The Southeast Texas Whiskey Festival in Beaumont showcased how far a few ingredients can go. There, Whiskey Fox collaborated with producers and helped many attendees discover new expressions. They’ve also hosted tastings in Austin, San Antonio, and Katy, plus an event at the San Diego Distillery alongside the head distiller.
“Events like these are special because of the people and conversations that affirm we are doing the right thing, and give us new ideas on how to grow Whiskey Fox,” says Ozenne.
The San Diego Distillery exemplifies the value of creative distillations, using habanero-honey barrels and exotic wood staves from Africa and Brazil to make unconventional flavors.
“It’s these types of experiences and opportunities that our learning and tasting expeditions afford for our users—an ability to discover new producers, methods, profiles, and paradigms,” says Jones.
