Natural Pain Relief:

Posture Therapy Treats the Root of the Problem

We are often told, especially as children, to sit up straight and avoid slouching. It turns out that this is very good advice.

“The human body is meant to go for, let’s say, 100 years, but every time we mistreat it and squat incorrectly, bend over incorrectly, or sit incorrectly, we cause problems,” says Evan Litchfield, owner of Pre-Post Wellness.

A personal trainer, lifelong athlete and coach, Evan wanted to find a way to help people in pain. So, he expanded his knowledge and eventually settled upon the Egoscue Method, a postural therapy designed to eliminate chronic pain without drugs or surgery.

“I found how simple but how powerful it was, and that’s when I started Pre-Post,” he says. “These exercises help prepare your body to move correctly.”

Since Covid forced Pre-Post Wellness to temporarily close its doors, Evan started holding private sessions with his clients via Zoom. However, his most recent shift is doing livestreaming on Twitch three times a day beginning October 1

“I’m hoping to bring posture exercises to people who will be sitting all day in front of their computers at home or in the office,” he says. “My ultimate goal is to bring companies on board to get their employees to feel better and to make their workdays less painful.”

These 20- to 30-minute livestreaming sessions will be free at first, but eventually Evan plans to offer subscriptions, which will come with benefits. It’s a chance, he says, for people to try them out with no cost or obligation.

“But, all of these exercises will be geared toward the general public and not toward an individual,” says Evan. “Where Egoscue really shines is with the one-on-one training.”

Once people try the method, they can then sign up for private online sessions.

“I will assess the client’s posture, and based on their pain, I will be able to build a workout that will be more suited to their specific needs rather than the livestream general workouts,” says Evan.

Unlike pain pills, which are just a band-aid to hide pain, the Egoscue Method, he says, is going to solve what’s causing the pain. And it works well for people of all ages, whether they are professional football players (the San Francisco 49ers use the Egoscue Method), children involved in school sports or senior citizens who just want to golf again.

The workouts can lead to improvement fairly quickly, says Evan, especially with minor pain. Most people start out doing the sessions once or twice a week, depending on their needs and levels of pain.

To keep people informed about these livestreaming sessions, Evan will be posting on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube under PrePostWellness and on Twitch under PrePost195.

“The goal for Pre-Post is to change the fitness culture to be more welcoming,” he says. “A lot of time the fitness industry can be scary, and I want people of all fitness levels to be comfortable being active and fit again.”
