At Moxie Gymnastics and Cheer, an athlete’s success isn’t measured in ribbons or medals. It is measured in the belief that they are strong, capable, and confident both inside and outside the gym. Moxie helps athletes build that confidence through hard work, perseverance, and healthy habits that last a lifetime.
What makes Moxie truly unique is its family-centered philosophy. The facility is warm, welcoming, and intentionally designed to be a place where kids can thrive. Whether a child is part of the after-school program or on a competitive team, everyone feels valued and supported. Coaches feel like “bonus parents,” says head coach Carlos Arroyo, who makes sure each child feels seen, encouraged, and cared for. He ends practices with a hug and reminds gymnasts that their performance does not define their worth.
“They truly believe in their athletes, which fosters a sense of self-worth that carries beyond the gym,” says Jamie Jones, whose daughter Mila is a Level 4 gymnast at Moxie.
Moxie’s philosophy emphasizes the development of the whole athlete: physical, mental, and emotional. With core principles like “Health Comes First,” “Long-Term Development Over Short-Term Gains,” and “Balanced Identity,” gymnasts learn habits that reach far beyond the gym. Through consistent movement and skill building, athletes gain the strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination that form the foundation of physical fitness.
They also learn teamwork and communication, practice discipline by setting and working toward goals, and build confidence as they experience progress. They learn that progress takes time and consistency, which teaches patience and perseverance.
For young gymnasts, that perseverance is essential. Depending on their level, they can spend nine to 30 hours per week training, sometimes six days straight, fully committed to their sport. Jamie shares, “Mila has learned what it truly means to dedicate herself to something to achieve the outcomes she desires.”
Even with such rigorous schedules, Moxie coaches reinforce routines that reduce stress and support emotional well-being. Along the way, kids are introduced to healthy eating habits and encouraged to stay active, helping them develop a natural love for movement. These experiences build well-rounded kids and create lifelong healthy habits. "Moxie has taught me so much, like self-discipline, teamwork, and how eating healthy grows my strength and endurance," Mila says.
Mindset is another cornerstone of Moxie’s coaching approach. Negative self-talk is not allowed. Instead, athletes learn to replace discouraging thoughts with positive affirmations that support self-belief. Every step of progress, whether big or small, is celebrated. This creates a safe and uplifting environment where confidence can grow.
Above all, Moxie is committed to raising balanced, healthy children. Well-being always takes priority over short-term performance goals. Proper sleep, nutrition, injury prevention, and recovery are emphasized. Gymnasts learn to advocate for themselves and to understand that gymnastics is something they do, not the whole of who they are. Moxie encourages balance between school, friendships, and rest for healthier athletes and stronger identities.
A heart full of pride and confidence is the hope for every child at Moxie. They gain a clear sense of what they can achieve and an understanding that meaningful growth requires time and dedication. With the healthy habits they learn and the unwavering support of a team that invests time, energy, and heart into every child, Moxie gymnasts carry with them the belief that they are strong, capable, and enough.
