Brentwood police officers Sam Bady, Mark Wood and Allie Segal are the expert instructors of R.A.D., a self-defense program that can help you turn the tables on an aggressor and keep you from being victimized. Standing for “Rape Aggression Defense,” R.A.D. is the nation’s largest and fastest-growing self-defense program, and Officers Bady, Wood and Segal are all R.A.D.-certified. Offered throughout the year, these free, women-only courses for women ages 13 and up meet at Brentwood Safety Center East from 6–9 p.m. twice a week for two weeks. Your strength, size and level of fitness do not matter; it’s a “go at your own pace” program.

“If you can walk up a flight of stairs, you can do this class,” Officer Wood says.

In addition to the camaraderie the course affords, it’s a great bonding experience for mothers and daughters. Participants learn how to make themselves a hard target while gaining experience in practical techniques of thwarting an aggressor.

“It’s serious business, but our classes are still fun,” Officer Bady says.

Classes also fill up, so sign up soon. To do so, contact Officer Mark Wood at woodm@brentwood-tn.org, or call him at 615.371.2267 ext. 345.
