Raising the Roof

How Teddy Slack redefines roofing with transparency, trust and craftsmanship

Teddy Slack knows home services. Raised in the industry, he learned old-fashioned work ethic and customer service while working in his father’s business. “My father was in the environmental industry, so I started a residential division under his commercial company in 2005,” says Slack, a local business owner who grew up in Warren and attended Oratory Prep in Summit.

Slack later branched out on his own, founding a residential oil tank service business that he grew and sold in 2022. Over the years, he repeatedly heard from customers about challenges they faced with roof replacement and repair. Seeing an opportunity to improve the experience for homeowners, Slack decided to bring his expertise to the roofing industry.

In August 2025, he founded Tetti Roofing, specializing in residential asphalt roofing. “‘Tetti’ is the Italian word for ‘roofs,’” Slack says. “We chose the name as a tribute to our mother, Antoinette Bartolomeo, who taught us the values of hard work, family and caring for others.”

Based in Bridgewater, the company primarily serves a 20-mile radius encompassing Somerset, Hunterdon and Middlesex counties, though it has completed projects beyond that area. Each customer receives a free initial report that includes an attic inspection and drone footage highlighting any roof issues.

From there, Slack presents tailored solutions and financing options. “The services depend on the customer’s goals,” he says. “If they plan on staying in the home, a new roof makes sense. If they’re moving, a repair can extend the life of the roof.”

Once a project is completed by Tetti Roofing’s fully licensed and insured crews, customers receive a detailed Final Finish Report that includes photos, materials and invoices.

Slack says transparency, accountability and communication are critical in the home services industry, particularly in roofing. “There are a lot of roofing companies since the barrier to entry is low,” he says. “It’s scary for homeowners because you don’t know if you’re hiring a one-person operation that may disappear in a year or a company that’s established and financially backed.”

He advises homeowners to look for three types of protection. “First is the manufacturer’s warranty, which requires certification,” Slack says. “Second is the workmanship warranty, which covers installation issues. But if the company isn’t around in three years, there’s no one to stand behind that warranty. The third is a bond, which sits on top of the other two and protects the homeowner if the company goes out of business or the manufacturer doesn’t honor its warranty. Only a handful of companies in New Jersey carry this bond.”

To help consumers make informed decisions, Slack—who previously hosted the Modern Contractor TV Podcast—recently launched the Jersey Home Pro Podcast (@JerseyHomeProPodcast). The show features interviews with owners of local home service businesses, including landscapers, painters, window installers and flooring professionals.

“We give them a spotlight and talk about the services they provide,” Slack says. “We vet each guest to ensure they’re locally owned, responsive and do what they say they’re going to do.”

Slack, who lives in Clinton, chose Bridgewater as Tetti Roofing’s home base due to its central location and family ties. His children attend Immaculata High School and Immaculate Conception School in Annandale. “You can get anywhere quickly from Bridgewater,” he says. “And with the kids, I’m constantly in the area.”

In their free time, Slack, his fiancée, Bonita, and their seven children—ranging in age from one to high school—enjoy dining at Seasons 52, Maggiano’s Little Italy and CAVA.

Slack says he is proud of the legacy he continues to build. “I’m very proud of Simple Tank Services, the business I sold—it’s still the industry leader in residential environmental services,” he says. “Now I’m doing the same with roofing: building an industry-leading company that delivers the best service possible for homeowners.”
