Reflections on 9/11 - the 20th Anniversary

Hendersonville Commemorates the Day that Changed our World

Twenty years ago on September 11, our world changed forever.

The World Trade Center.

The Pentagon.

Shanksville, PA.

In a span of just one hour and seventeen minutes, terrorists perpetrated attacks upon the United States that took the lives of 2,977 people and permanently altered the course of history.

In honor of the twentieth anniversary of 9/11, communities across the nation are hosting special events to commemorate that fateful day.

One such event, the 9/11 Honor Walk, was held in Hendersonville’s Memorial Park on July 30. Sponsored by the nonprofit organization Honor365, the ceremony was designed to honor fallen heroes and to recognize area first responders who put their lives on the line every day to protect our community. Hendersonville was one of only twenty cities selected to host an Honor Walk event.

Following opening remarks by Honor365 Founder and Executive Director Dr. Ninzel Rasmuson, the ceremony continued with presentations by local and state dignitaries, and a special musical performance by Country Music star Darryl Worley.

Subsequently, Dr. Rasmuson proceeded to recognize fallen and living Tennessee heroes with special certificates and coins honoring their sacrifices and service.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, all participants and guests were invited to take a special walk around the Hendersonville First Responder Memorial as a tribute to the memory of 9/11.
