Just a short twenty minute drive from Evans, you’ll find beautiful scenery and a day of fun at Rocky Branches Golf Course. Rocky Branches Golf Course was originally a 119 acre cattle farm owned by Bill and Sue Ashmore. Bill’s son, Dave, told his dad that the property would make for a beautiful golf course. In 1995, the family began the building process for the course and on October 18th 1996, Rocky Branches opened for business. In 2013, a group of men came together and purchased Rocky Branches and they continue to own it today.
“We have eighteen holes. The front nine and the back nine are totally different. The front nine is more open, has a lot of hills, and is easier. The back nine is tighter and is more like a typical Georgia golf course. It’s flatter and a little harder,” says Al Holloway at Rocky Branches Golf Course. Al lives in Lincoln County and has always had a love for sports.
Al tells us that Lincolnton is not as far from Evans as most people think. “A lot of people from Columbia County think that they will have to drive over an hour to get to us but it’s really just a twenty-five minute drive. 75% of our players are from Columbia County,” says Al.
“You can play eighteen holes here in three hours because we aren’t as crowded. “It’s really a golf course that people can enjoy and shoot a better score on than they can on some of the longer golf courses,” says Al.
Rocky Branches is also active with the schools in Lincoln County and Columbia County. They are the home course for Lincoln County High School and the matches and tournaments with Evans High School and Harlem High School are often held at Rocky Branches Golf Course.
