What sets Rolling Suds apart from other franchise based companies?
Power washing is largely a mom-and-pop operated, locally owned and unbranded business. I’m sure it has served as many an individual's first business venture because of its simplicity and historically low barrier to entry. However, that is what makes this company so much different from anything else currently in the industry. Rolling Suds is the first coast-to-coast power washing company in the US. We currently have 187 territories across 26 states and are growing. Additionally, your average power washer is targeting the residential market. We service residential as well, but our biggest advantage is our ability to do large-scale commercial and industrial projects. This is all made possible through our proven Professional Power Washing Method that incorporates some of the most advanced equipment, robust labor model, and knowledge that has been gathered over the last 34 years the company has been operated.
It is obvious that company culture is a very important value at Rolling Suds. What are the standards you all put in place that help contribute to the result of both happy employees and happy clients?
Our culture is the foundation of our business. We have four core values that we want to permeate throughout the organization. They are communication, compassion, honesty, and being helpful. This is rooted in everything we do. From a power washing technician interacting with a customer all the way to us vetting potential franchisee candidates to bring on board. Over the last 18 months, we have actually turned away 57 applicants who were trying to buy into the organization. It is more important for us to maintain our organization’s great culture than it is for us to sell more territories.
What was it about Nashville that made Rolling Suds decide to make this a main hub for the company?
The founders of the company, Brian Wednling Sr. and Brian Wendling Jr., have built this organization from the ground up over the last 3 decades in Warrington, PA. We used to conduct the final training with our franchisees at their facility where this all started. Unfortunately, due to the seasonality of the North East, we wouldn’t have been able to conduct training all year round. Which was of the utmost importance with how quickly the organization has been growing. The CEO, Aaron Harper, and myself, as the Director of Corporate Operations at the time, were both located here in Nashville. Obviously, it was convenient for us, but more importantly, it was more centrally located in the US for our franchisees to come out to for training and we would be able to conduct more training cycles due to how far South it is. Furthermore, with us being such a quickly growing business, talent acquisition is always at the forefront of our minds. I have lived all over and I don’t know if I have seen an area more ripe with talent than Nashville.
In addition to being a veteran yourself, we learned that many of your coworkers and franchise owners have also served our country. How has that been a focus for Rolling Suds?
We are proud to be such a pro-military employer and franchisor! Ostensibly, it is always great to be able to give back to those who have served this country, but there is so much more to it than that. Our veterans possess so many skills from team leadership, to discipline, an agility to learning, willingness to go above and beyond, and having attention to detail. Whether it is a power washing technician, executive leader, or a franchisee, those aforementioned skills are always crucial to individual or organizational success.
It seems that not only is Rolling Suds a very hands-on company, but leadership is very much involved in the day-to-day operations. How important is your leadership and the process of training new franchise owners?
This is absolutely one of the things we pride ourselves on. I don’t want to speak for everyone on the team, but I left my previous employer because of how disconnected the senior leadership was from the operation. They were so far removed that there was no way they could make effective decisions about the operation and had no empathy for the front-line worker. That is why it is so important to us that everyone who is employed at the home office will go out at least once a quarter to power wash with the team. From our Lead Sales Consultant to myself as the President; we can all be found at a customer’s home or at a commercial job site actually performing the job so we can always keep a pulse on the team members working conditions and morale and the customers' needs.
