Your Home, Reimagined

Local designer Greg DeLoia reveals how to transform your space into a sanctuary that reflects your lifestyle, values, and personality.

As we embrace a new era of living, our homes are transforming to reflect our changing needs and values. Greg DeLoia of Sanctuary Spaces, a local interior design firm, shares his insights on the latest trends shaping our living spaces.

Biophilic design is taking center stage, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living. Homeowners are incorporating natural elements through upholstery, wallpaper, and an abundance of plants, both real and artificial. Larger windows are becoming popular, inviting more natural light and outdoor views into our sanctuaries.

The shift towards remote work has prompted creative solutions for home offices. Greg emphasizes the importance of strategic placement and flexibility in workspace design. 'We've been challenged to create multiple workspaces within homes, often in unexpected places. We've transformed guest rooms, basements, and even closets into functional workspaces allowing for a healthier separation between work and personal life.

Sustainability is no longer just a buzzword but a driving force in modern home design. Clients are increasingly focused on durability and eco-friendly materials. This demand has spurred innovation in the industry, with manufacturers developing more sustainable and transparent products.

Color palettes are evolving too. While neutrals remain strong, earth-inspired tones and moody, bold hues are gaining traction. Natural materials like wood, jute, and stone (both real and faux) are reigning supreme in material selections.

Looking ahead, Greg predicts a rise in individualistic design. "Clients are moving away from strictly following trends and instead creating spaces that truly reflect their personalities." This often includes incorporating antiques into modern interiors, which he finds adds wonderful character and depth.

In a world where our homes serve more purposes than ever before, Sanctuary Spaces is helping clients create true sanctuaries, "At the end of the day, my goal is always to design spaces that allow my clients to be their best selves. Our goal is not to simply follow trends, but to create functional spaces for our clients that are uniquely their own."
