Founder Carmine Battimelli started at a young age at his local butcher shop in Brooklyn, NY. Working his way up from delivery boy at 13 to making fresh mozzarella and Italian sausage to master butchering and preparing classic entrees, he learned all aspects of the business along the way. That experience, combined with family traditions and recipes, eventually led to his own store in Stratford before opening the cherished Fairfield location. Carmine has built a shop and menu like no other. Known for their award-winning sandwiches, bakery, top quality gourmet items, Certified Prime Black Angus Meats, top quality poultry, pork and veal, and a large variety of fresh pasta. The store also carries a large selection of hot and cold prepared entrees, soups & salads. The menu has evolved to appeal to a wide range of tastes, but most things have stayed true to the store's beginning roots. Says Carmine's son, Don, "Our menu has stood the test of time, leading us to continue cooking recipes that have delighted our community for over 30 years!
As well-known for their extensive menu offerings, they are also recognized for their quality, attention to detail and impeccable customer service. The traditions have continued since Don and his brother, Giovanni, joined the business in 2021, making it a family business in every way. The Battimelli men noted, "We care for our customers like family; in fact, we are family. We make it a point to get to know and serve our customers to the best of our ability. We only carry the best of the best, and we are extremely scrupulous in ensuring every piece of food that comes out of our kitchen, butcher department, bakery, and deli is the best reflection of ourselves."
To Carmine and his sons, food means family. It brings people together and creates lasting memories - for generations.
