Scents of the Season

One process, two seasonal scents for a cozy home

Bring the scents of fall and winter into your home with these simmer pots. Choose the warm, spiced notes of the autumn blend or the fresh, festive scent of the winter blend. Add the ingredients to a pot, let them simmer, and fill your home with an inviting fragrance.

Autumn Blend Simmer Pot

Ingredients

  • 1 apple cut in half
  • 1 orange cut in slices
  • 2-3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 Tbsp whole cloves
  • 2-4 star anise
  • 1 tsp apple pie spice
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Water

Winter Blend Simmer Pot

Ingredients

  • 1 orange cut in slices
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • 3-4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 Tbsp whole cloves
  • 2-4 star anise
  • 3-4 sprigs of fresh pine
  • Water

One Simmering Process

  1. Add all the ingredients into a pot or saucepan.
  2. Fill with enough water to completely cover the ingredients.
  3. Place on the stovetop over low heat to bring to a gentle simmer. Leave uncovered so the scent fills the room.
  4. Check the pot regularly, adding fresh water every hour or as needed to prevent the ingredients from drying out or burning.

Tips & Variations

  • If you don’t want to leave the stove on, place the ingredients into a crockpot, fill with water and leave on low heat with the lid off.
  • Customize your blend by swapping out a few ingredients.  For the fall scents, replace apple pie spice with pumpkin pie spice or ground nutmeg. For the winter scents, replace fresh pine with fresh rosemary.
  • To use the mixture again, turn off the heat, cover the pot, and leave it until the next day. You can also pour the mixture into a jar and store it in the refrigerator.
