Dr. Lee’s path to optometry was anything but ordinary. After years in finance and banking, he made the life-changing decision to pivot toward health care. “When the financial crash hit in 2008, I realized I wanted to do something more meaningful—something that allowed me to work directly with people,” Dr. Lee recalls. “Optometry gave me that opportunity to combine science, precision and human connection.”
Since taking ownership of Hillsborough Eye Care, Dr. Lee has focused on maintaining the practice’s welcoming, community-oriented culture while expanding its scope of services. One key differentiator is the in-house optical lab, which allows the team to cut and finish lenses onsite. “Our in-house lab gives us full control over quality and speed,” he explains. “Patients appreciate knowing their glasses are crafted right here by people they know and trust.”
Hillsborough Eye Care also offers a thoughtfully selected range of exclusive frames not typically found in larger retail settings—reflecting the team’s belief that eyewear should blend comfort, function and personal style. But it’s their medical expertise that truly sets them apart. Dr. Lee and associate optometrist Dr. Janna Teytel specialize in dry eye treatment, medical eye care and low-vision therapy, using cutting-edge diagnostic tools and evidence-based treatment plans.
“Eye health goes far beyond vision correction,” Dr. Lee emphasizes. “We’re seeing more patients struggling with dryness, inflammation and ocular surface issues that can impact daily comfort and long-term health. Our goal is to treat the cause, not just the symptoms.”
Looking ahead, Dr. Lee and his team aim to strengthen Hillsborough Eye Care’s presence in both the eye care and skincare spheres, with a focus on expanding services like dry eye IPL (intense pulsed light) treatment. “There’s a natural overlap between eye care and skincare,” he notes. “Our mission is to provide comprehensive care that enhances both comfort and confidence.”
Beyond the office, Hillsborough Eye Care remains deeply engaged in the community, sponsoring Hillsborough High School sports teams and supporting local events. “We’re proud to give back to the same community that has supported this practice for over four decades,” Dr. Lee adds. “We see generations of families here—grandparents, parents and now their kids. That continuity is what makes it special.”
With longtime team members like Nicole Brezin, office manager, who has been part of the practice for more than 15 years; Raquel, an optician with over 40 years of experience; and Adrienne, returning to the office after two decades, the sense of family runs deep. “Our patients know us by name,” Dr. Lee reflects. “They know we’ll take the time to listen, to educate and to make sure they’re truly seeing their best.”
