Sheri Rasmussen talks sewing, inspiration + when to have something tailored

Sew Perfect

How did you get into sewing?

I grew up in a military family and was fortunate to travel the world. I started my own sewing and alteration business in my early 20s. I moved to Chandler in 2005 with my husband and two children.

My mother taught me to sew when I was about 5-years-old. It evolved from being a hobby into a passionate career over the course of my life.

What types of work do you do?

My sewing specialties include creating custom garments, home décor, and various alterations.

Any favorite items to work on?

I enjoy all the challenges my clients bring to me, from the alterations needed to fit a garment properly to creating the perfect custom statement piece.

What inspires you?

Following fashion and design trends is a passion for me! It inspires me to put my own spin of creativity into my work and pass that on to my clients. I often use social media, television and magazines to inspire my work.

Any tips you can share about how something should fit or how to know when something should be tailored?

Every body is different and clothing trends change constantly. If something feels ill-fitted—it’s loose, too tight, too long, or even too short—then alterations should be considered for a proper fit.
