When Stacey Newman purchased her house in 2016, there was a horse stable at the back of the acre property.
“It was 40 years old and dilapidated,” she says.
About two years after moving in, she was ready to renovate it and make it a space for herself.
Over the course of about five years, she worked on it in between building a tree house, an Airstream project, and living life. The south-facing garden windows give space for plant propagation and views of the bird feeders. The curtains are made from canvas drop cloth and hang from copper pipes.
“We started out with redwood because it was durable, and we actually repurposed some of the redwood boards from the old horse corral. It just went with the overall boho, rustic vibe that I love,” she explains.
Today the “she shed” is used as a quiet place to relax, a place where her children can watch movies or she can host a girls’ night, and guest space. There’s even a kitchenette.
“It’s like an escape out there because it’s so peaceful and quiet,” she says. “It’s like you’re somewhere else.”
The Desk
The desk was originally purchased for Newman’s son and the family has had it for about 15 years. It was refurbished and has sentimental value. It can be used as a desk or as a place to put on makeup.
Furnishings
Newman found many of the furnishings that are throughout at estate sales or from thrifting. This includes the tall cabinet, the leather chair, and the ottoman. The décor has evolved over time and as Newman settled into the space.
The Floor
The tile on the floor is actually tile that was leftover from the main house. She had someone install the flooring, and then she stained them the terracotta color, which pulled together the color scheme throughout the house.
