Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center: Expanding & Enhancing the Community

The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewich Community Center (JCC) is proud to be serving the Bridgewater community. They are here to provide fitness, recreational, social, educational and cultural programming for individuals of all ages.

First and foremost, the JCC is a social service agency who is designed to help the community. The JCC is welcoming to all and is dedicated to creating an environment that is open, safe, understanding and accepting.  They welcome individuals and families of all race, religion, culture, national origin, sex, gender identity (including gender expression), sexual orientation, economic status, mental or physical disability, and backgrounds to be part of our JCC Family.

According to Laura Friedman, Executive Director of the JCC, “This JCC is all about community. We are a social service agency, whose mission is to serve our members and the community-at- large. The government mandate to close our doors is not preventing us from continuing to serve the community. Within one day’s time, our staff created an extensive lineup of virtual programs and resources to connect with individuals of all ages. They are expanding and enhancing these efforts every day.  Every department has created impactful programming so we can stay connected. I’m extremely proud of what our JCC is doing.”

What you might not know about the JCC is that membership is not required for an individual to take part in classes, programs, activities or special events. Many things are in fact open to the public. The JCC also has an early childhood center (Blaustein Early Childhood Center ages 6 weeks through full day kindergarten); summer camp (JCC Camp Ruach for ages 2 – teen travel); after school program (JCrew After School Program for ages K-6) and swim team (Bridgewater Tide Swim Team).

The JCC offers a friendly family atmosphere, and has something for everyone.  From a beautiful newly renovated and expanded fitness facility with state of the art equipment and locker rooms to summer camp to social events, there’s quite literally something to fit the needs of every family member. The fitness center alone offers more than 100 group fitness classes per week and personal training sessions.

The JCC is also extremely proud of the programming they provide to individuals of all ages with special needs, including the JCares Adult Intern Program, JZone Respite Program for children, JConnect Social Program for Adults, and the Rising Tide Special Olympics Swim Team.

Their staff is constantly expanding and enhancing what they are doing and offering the community. The JCC has created virtual programming for community members of all ages so that they can connect with each other. The JCC is providing relevant programming in key areas including fitness, early childhood, camp, youth & teens, families, special needs, adults, Jewish living and holiday observances and much more.
