For Interior Designer Nicole Hopper, style has never been about playing it safe, blending into the background, or chasing fleeting luxury labels. It began as an intimate journey of self-discovery. Raised by a single mother working two jobs, Nicole grew up in a household where purchasing new things was a luxury they often couldn't afford. Instead, she frequently dressed in hand-me-downs, an experience that forced her to look past the price tags of the clothing she wore and find creative ways to express her own identity.
“When you grow up finding your voice through hand-me-downs, you realize that style isn't about what you can buy,” Nicole reflects. “It's about how you carry yourself, how you pair unexpected elements, and how you find beauty and dignity in what you already have. It taught me to curate and it helped shape my understanding of self-regard.”
This early resilience and visual instinct eventually led her into the demanding arena of high-end real estate. For 14 years, she operated a highly successful business styling premier luxury properties with the Hopper Group. Yet, despite a constant flow of work, she spent those years behind the scenes, executing visual stories without collaborating directly with the homeowners.
“People look at my brand today the design awards, the magazine covers, the vibrant fashion and assume I’ve always lived in this world,” Nicole shares. “But the truth is, confidence is a muscle I had to build intentionally.”
Ready to step into her own light, Nicole made the pivotal decision to formalize her expertise at the Heritage School of Interior Design. It was a rigorous, transformative transition that forced her to step out from the background, present her ideas, and confidently own her creative voice. "I had to build my certainty from the ground up," Nicole reflects. "That hard-earned clarity is the exact gift I now bring to my clients when helping them realize their own design style. True style is an inside job, it requires inner certainty before you can successfully dress a person or a room."
Today, as the Principal of Nicole Hopper Interiors, Nicole’s eye for color and structure naturally extends to her personal wardrobe. For Nicole, getting dressed is a daily intention. "I believe that how you choose to get dressed changes your mood, your posture, and how you take on the world,” she explains. “Being intentional and thoughtful expresses a sense of dignity. It honors the people in front of you when you show up ready for the moment in a put-together way.”
While world travel to places like England and Italy fuels her passion for creativity, her personal wardrobe color palette is chosen entirely for how it makes her feel. “I feel my best in bold colors, vibrant reds, bright oranges, and all shades of pink make me incredibly happy and confident,” Nicole shares. “I love to bring an element of high fashion and celebration to the everyday.”
Nicole translates this same thoughtful discipline into her professional design philosophy, The Curation Standard, while maintaining a clear aesthetic boundary between her wardrobe and her clients' spaces. While her closet is a celebration of vibrant color, her interior design style is deeply rooted in the classic, sophisticated beauty of the Pacific Northwest. “For a luxury home in Kirkland or Bellevue, my job isn't to just fill a room with beautiful things; it is an edit of high intention. We draw deep inspiration from our local landscape, bringing in peaceful neutrals, greens, and blues to create a sanctuary. Every custom piece we source must serve the client’s actual daily lifestyle and emotional well-being, protecting them from 'safe' choices and ensuring their environment is tailored to their highest self-regard.”
With a thriving firm, Nicole is now dedicated to ensuring other women don't play small in their own lives. “I launched my Early Career Designer Coaching because I saw a gap between receiving a design education and actually knowing how to launch and run a successful design career,” Nicole explains. “My goal is to bridge that gap, giving emerging designers the professional foundation, business strategy, and confidence they need to start their company or land a job at their dream firm.” That same passion inspired her to launch the Founders Collective, a collaborative space for local women entrepreneurs to lift each other up and fully give themselves permission to thrive.
