In the wake of COVID-19's impact on small businesses, Smyrna's spirit of community has never shone brighter. The Smyrna Business Association (SBA) has reinvented its approach to supporting local enterprises. The annual "Shop Smyrna Saturday" event, evolved from the "Shop Small, Shop Local" initiative, has become a cherished community tradition.
On the Saturday following Thanksgiving, our community unites to celebrate and support the businesses that make Smyrna unique. Spearheaded by Paul Powers and Sara Sorenson, the mission of this initiative is to remind residents about the diverse array of local shops and eateries right in our neighborhood.
Shopping locally does more than just support individual businesses; it strengthens our entire community. When we choose to spend at Smyrna establishments, we're helping to maintain the character and vitality of our city. It's a simple act that has far-reaching benefits for everyone who calls Smyrna home.
The SBA team's efforts to promote the event are noteworthy. Through social media campaigns and friendly outreach by SBA Ambassadors, they're spreading the word about the importance of supporting local businesses. As an added incentive, shoppers on November 30th between 9am and 5pm have a chance to win one of three $100 gift cards.
Vickery Ace Hardware off Concord Road stands out as an enthusiastic participant. Their wholehearted embrace of the event, from displaying promotional materials to using Shop Smyrna swag bags, exemplifies the community spirit that makes our city special.
What began as a small initiative with just 10 businesses has grown significantly, with over 25 local establishments participating this year. This growth reflects Smyrna's increasing sense of unity and shared purpose.
As "Shop Smyrna Saturday" continues to evolve, it serves as a gentle reminder of the importance of community support. By choosing to shop locally, we're not just making purchases; we're investing in the place we call home. It's a simple yet powerful way to ensure Smyrna remains vibrant and welcoming for years to come.
