While growing up, Richard Lin, owner of ShowCar Perfection, didn’t quite appreciate that his father was a highly respected chemist, but he always knew that he was a good problem solver. Richard was drawn to explore creative interests that solved other types of problems ranging from architecture to video production prior to entering the automotive field. “His advice to me was to follow my dreams, be patient with growth, and always do my best,” Richard says.
When, in 2009, Richard suddenly found himself a victim of fraud, a life-changing setback that cost him his life savings, nearly bankrupting him. Although his parents had offered to help him financially, Richard refused to accept it, citing that he had trusted the wrong people and he felt it was important to live with that mistake and correct the situation. Richard’s pride and determination that year led to the creation of several car detailing products and other innovations for which he has earned a stellar reputation in the auto detailing industry today.
The success of product sales and the ShowCar Perfection shop have allowed Richard the ability to give back by restoring a vehicle for a family who couldn’t otherwise afford the services. “I provide the materials and invite local detailers to volunteer their time to help me restore it,” says Richard. “I fix and restore [paint problems] that others would turn down or are unable to do. I have a great deal of experience and the right tools to perform “magic” to get the absolute best results.”
Richard’s son, Lukas, is now a teenager learning to drive and helps his dad at the shop when he has the time. Like most dads, he often wonders if his son will share the same values and find wisdom in his own mistakes. For now, it will have to be enough to provide him with “unconditional love and guidance, allow him to fail and learn from his mistakes, and expose him to as many positive opportunities as possible.”
