Fashion does not have to be complicated. Department stores can overwhelm, with too many trendy pieces that are often out of a comfortable realm for the everyday man. John Hornacek, owner of Scottsdale Men's Shoppe, points out that when a man chooses pieces for his wardrobe, simple style can go a long way.
"I love clothes, but being an owner of a golf store for 22 years put me in a constant rotation of wearing golf apparel," he says. "I realized men’s fashion always changes, and that is very exciting...I should experience that more often."
John saw a need for a men's store where they would be the main focus.
"Because my closet was full of golf shirts, my wife and I thought, 'Let’s do something just for men!' After all, there are so many wonderful women’s boutiques."
Scottsdale Men's Shoppe was crafted to appeal to the casual Arizona lifestyle. John says they didn't overthink the concept too much because it comes down to one basic principle: quality items that will last.
"We carry a variety of clothing lines like Mizzen and Main. These performance dress shirts have moisture wicking, which is key in Arizona," he says.
John also notes that buying U.S. brands is of utmost importance to him.
"I handle the purchasing, so I stock the store with items I would wear. If I won't wear it, I won't order it. This store is my perfect closet."
Scottsdale Men's Shoppe thrives in North Scottsdale due to clientele appreciating the longevity and wonderful fabrics of the clothing lines carried. John also takes the approach of a hassle-free environment while shopping, but he and his wife are there to help.
"Guys need help making decisions, and I have knowledge and variety at the Men's Shoppe," he says.
