“We want every client to walk out with a treasure.”
–Connie Hill
Eddie and Connie Hill have been creating child and family portraiture for more than twenty years, offering beautiful photographic wall art and hand-painted pieces. So, what sets them apart from all the other photographers? It's simple. The Hills are true portrait artists. In a field that has been inundated by shoot-and-burn enthusiasts, The Hills have always insisted on controlling their artistic process from capture through the final piece.
“We want every client to walk out with a treasure,” Connie says. “We want to create something for our clients’ walls that will help them appreciate the awesomeness of these children that they’ve been given responsibility for. It takes time. It takes effort. But we hope it’s worth it.”
When it comes to technique, the Hills employ the fundamentals of classical portraiture but with a twist. They rarely pose children. Instead, they put them in a starting place and then let them react as kids would react.
“But there is a plan,” Eddie says. “We don’t simply follow them around a park. We put them in a carefully crafted environment and then become an observer. We watch what interests them and then gently engage them along those lines.”
A big part of creating the ideal portrait environment is managing light, and the Hills credit much of their style to a thorough understanding of it. They favor soft, directional light. Whether they are working outdoors or in the studio, they create the same look.
“Those who want true art for their walls will want something special,” Connie says. “Providing an art piece requires more intention and commitment to the final work. Our goal is to take the emotional, empowering, happy and inspiring stories of our clients and creatively weave them into art-pieces that are positive and meaningful."
