Lola Rose

Located in Park Bend within the Carolina Park neighborhood, Lola Rose brings a breezy coastal Mediterranean spirit to Mount Pleasant. Opened in the summer of 2023 by James Beard Award-nominated chef Kevin Johnson and his wife Susan—also the duo behind The Grocery in downtown Charleston—the restaurant continues their tradition of creating warm, neighborhood-driven dining experiences rooted in seasonality and connection.

For the couple, the location is especially meaningful, having called North Mount Pleasant home for more than two decades. That sense of community carries through every detail of Lola Rose, from its welcoming, energetic bar to the open kitchen centered around a custom Italian pizza oven and a covered patio designed for lingering evenings with friends.

The menu highlights the best of the Lowcountry, with ingredients sourced from local farmers, fishermen, foragers, and artisans. Dishes are both comforting and refined, ranging from seasonal salads and wood-fired pizzas to housemade pastas, local seafood, and Mediterranean-inspired mains.

Standout starters include Fluffy Cheese with rosemary focaccia, Fritto Misto, and Arancini with prosciutto di Parma and vodka sauce. From the pizza oven, offerings rotate with the seasons, while pastas range from rich, slow-simmered ragùs to bright, briny seafood preparations. Entrées lean into Mediterranean comfort, from roasted chicken with Carolina Gold rice to seared scallops with fennel, sweet onion, and citrus. For dessert, guests can enjoy a concise but irresistible selection, including a baklava sundae with vanilla gelato, pistachio, and caramelized honey.

At the bar, guests will find a mix of classic cocktails and inventive spritzes, alongside local beers and a wine list focused on coastal American and Mediterranean producers. It’s the kind of place that feels equally suited for a casual weeknight dinner or a long, celebratory meal—one that’s become a go-to favorite for many in the community.

Thank you, Lola Rose, for sharing this recipe with us—cheers!
