When Brooke Erin Lowry set out to meet people after moving to Boerne seven years ago, she had a surefire combo that was guaranteed to accomplish her goal: books and wine. Thus, the Boerne Book and Wine Club was born. And since it officially started in 2019, it has blown up. “I started the Boerne Book and Wine Club and made a post about it on a Boerne mom’s Facebook group,” Lowry recalls. “The group has grown like crazy since then.”
Tapping into the magic combo of wine and books has led to meet-ups at all of the hot spots around town, both new and old. “We have gone to Lost Oak, DeVino, Dodging Duck, Bevy, Inferno’s, Tusculum, 28 Songs, Freeroam, Pure Country, Richter,” Lowry rattles off, knowing she’s leaving some out. “We try to rotate between going out to support local places and going to the homes of one of our members.”
These days, the group meets once a month, but Lowry says the connections are much bigger. “I have found my people through this group, and it has given so many people a place to fit in and belong in Boerne,” she explains. “We welcome everyone and hope that anyone who wants a place to meet new people can come and join us.”
So let’s say someone has been looking for new fun friends and wants to catch up on some of the books they’ve been reading… where should they start? Lowry and crew gave us six books they know you’ll love this summer. And when you’re ready to discuss your thoughts on these reads, go find them and share. “We can pretty much guarantee you’ll have fun!”
