Conrad, who has been in business locally for 25 years, specializes in customized interior design, including home renovations, furnishings, custom design drapery, bedding, accessories, and more.
Since Christmas is Conrad’s favorite time of year, it’s not surprising that she has plenty of helpful advice to help transform a plain Christmas tree into a thing of beauty.
Tip One: Select the Right Size
Conrad advises investing in a high-quality, pre-lit tree, being careful to choose one that fits the available space.
“People with super-tall ceilings need to consider a 9- to 12-foot tree, and if you have 9- to10-foot ceilings, I suggest a 7- to 7.5-foot tree. The width will depend on the space available in the room, and if you are willing to relocate furniture during the holiday season,” she says.
Tip Two: Prepare the Tree Prior to Decorating
“Always fluff and shape the branches. This can be a very time-consuming task, but trust me, the end result is more than worth it,” Conrad says.
Tip Three: Design Around a Theme
A professional-looking tree has a central look, Conrad shares.
“Themes for trees can be around a specific color—typical colors are usually red and green, all white, all silver with an accent color, or gold with red accents, and red and white tree themes are popular too.”
Tip Four: Add Ribbons
Ribbon can do a lot for the final look of the tree, Conrad says, adding that people should purchase the most expensive type they can afford.
“Weave it through the tree, allowing it to be fluffy and full, and it should go on before the ornaments.”
Tip Five: Top It Off
“The Christmas tree topper is considered the crowning glory; it's usually a bit elaborate and helps to set the look for the entire tree,” Conrad says.
Tip Six: Consider a Second Tree
“If you have small children who love to take part, maybe consider a small kids' tree themed to let them add all of their handmade ornaments. Many clients have family room trees that adorn all of the family favorites from over years. Each tree is unique and different and should represent what you love about the holiday season.”
