Slice of Summertime

Beat the Winter Doldrums with a Water Park Escape

Although it seems like a long time before we can experience that warm, sun-kissed feeling of summer, you can leave the snow behind and experience the exhilaration of indoor water park activities.

This Valentine’s Day season show your family some love with an escape to Great Wolf Lodge Pocono Mountains in Scrotrun, Pa. If you’ve already been, it’s a great time to return: The resort recently completed a $125 million renovation—the most extensive in its 18-year history—and introduced new dining, entertainment, attractions and accommodations.

The expanded portion features seven new slides, including the Slidewinder, which allows you to slide down in single- or double-person tubes with a fun twist: Those riding double face one another, providing a heart-racing, backward slide down for one rider as both encounter two high-banked, open-air curves before soaring into a mini-tornado and flying through a 180-degree turn culminating in a final splash down.

On the new Mountain Edge Raceway, riders grab a mat and race headfirst to the bottom of one of four exhilarating slides filled with high-bank curves and fun drops. Riders on Wolf Tail step into a capsule with a trap door that when released sends them into a 20-foot “freefall” before they encounter a 270-degree loop and splash down into the catch pool.

At night, check out the resort’s new lobby show and book a table at Timbers Tables & Kitchen or Fireside.

New accommodations give families more options. Mountain Tower features the latest Great Wolf design elements, including new sleeper sofas and themed rooms infused with character art from “The Great Wolf Pack” animated film. The Woodland Villas, which opened this fall with sweeping mountain views, can comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchenette and an elegant, private outdoor patio area. Have more people in your group? Book two connecting Villas and sleep 20 family members or friends.

“With the completion of our $125 million renovation, it’s safe to say the family experience at Great Wolf Lodge Pocono Mountains is better than ever,” says Bill Colavito, General Manager for Great Wolf Lodge Pocono Mountains. “We enhanced and elevated every aspect of the resort, and families that visited our resort before renovations were completed are going to be amazed when they come back.”
