Young entrepreneurs across the Lincolnway community showcased their creativity, confidence and business skills during this summer’s Young Entrepreneurs Fair events in New Lenox and Manhattan. The events gave children the opportunity to turn ideas into businesses and share their products with neighbors.
Designed to encourage entrepreneurship at an early age, the Young Entrepreneurs Fair provided a platform for kids to develop real-world skills while exploring their interests and passions. From handmade crafts and artwork to unique products and creative services, young business owners welcomed customers, practiced communication and learned the fundamentals of running a business.
The fairs brought families and community members together to support the next generation of innovators. More than a marketplace, the events celebrated imagination, determination and the courage it takes to bring an idea to life. Through these experiences, young participants gained valuable lessons in creativity, problem-solving and confidence while discovering that even the smallest ideas can make a big impact.
Risha Gala, Little Loops of Love
A single handmade gift sparked Risha Gala’s entrepreneurial journey. After purchasing a crocheted item and experiencing the joy of receiving something made with care, Risha wanted to create that same feeling for others. She taught herself to crochet in 2024 and now creates colorful, customizable pieces through Little Loops of Love. Encouraged by her mom to embrace her individuality, Risha hopes her creations inspire others to express themselves confidently. “I want my style to express me as a unique person,” she says.
Elva Burklow, The B Team
A craft show discovery turned into a creative business opportunity for Elva Burklow. After seeing a diamond painting she loved, Elva began creating her own designs and selling them through The B Team. She carefully places each gem by hand to create colorful keychains, notebooks and accessories. While the process takes patience, Elva’s favorite part is seeing children’s excitement when they visit her booth. Her advice to fellow young entrepreneurs is simple: “Be creative!”
Chase, Stress Less Squishies by Chase
A classroom Shark Tank project became the inspiration behind Stress Less Squishies by Chase. Drawn to the popularity of squishy toys, Chase began creating his own versions and quickly discovered how much he enjoyed the process. From twisting balloons to filling and wrapping each creation, he loves making every squishy by hand. While stuck flour balloons can be a challenge, Chase says his favorite creations are the biggest ones—because sometimes bigger really is better.
Aubrey, Bizarre Book Creations
Rather than letting old books sit unused on a shelf, Aubrey gives them a creative second life through Bizarre Book Creations. An avid reader, she transforms forgotten books into unique decorative pieces with help from her mom. Each creation requires patience, precision and time, including up to 24 hours of drying. Every piece is made with intention and care. “This is all made out of love,” Aubrey says. “It takes a lot of effort and time.”
