Healthy options to ease cravings and soothe the soul

After the hustle and bustle of the holidays – the parties, the food, the drinks – it’s understandable to feel like you might need a break from having wine (or beer, or cocktails) with what feels like every rich meal that you’ve had since Thanksgiving.

We’ve got you. Or, we should say that Griffy’s Organics has got you. Avry Griffin, the co-owner of the West End juice spot, was kind enough to go over some of the options Griffy’s provides to help get your body (and mind) right.

SEA MOSS GEL
“This is the most bio-available multivitamin you can have,” Griffin said, noting that the moss contains 92 of the 102 essential vitamins your body craves. They source it out of the Caribbean (St. Vincent), get it shipped to Long Branch where it’s cleaned, treated and turned into a gel. “It’s grown in volcanic waters, so it’s mineral-rich,” he said, adding that it “supports all areas of overall health.”

CRAN-APPLE & GRIFFY’S CIDERS
There is still some time to get these seasonal offerings, with ingredients that are wholly sourced from New Jersey; the apples come from New Egypt, the cranberries from Browns Mills and the aronia berries from Hopewell. The juices are cold pressed, which Griffin says is done to keep the live enzymes in tact. “They’re both great for immunity,” he says.

SUPER-SHROOM LATTES
“Mushrooms have gained so much popularity because of cognition, brain health and immunity support,” Griffin says. Griffy’s adds the super-shroom recipe to coffee (you can get it caffeinated or decaf) and says it “tastes like a hot chocolate.”

CLEANSES
Griffy’s offers a variety of juice cleanses (raw juices are one of their signature items), including a Super Slimdown Cleanse, which is a box of six curated juices meant to drink over the course of a day while abstaining from food. “During the holidays, people eat poorly and our cleanses are really popular for people,” he said. “It’s a really nice mixture of greens and fruit and metabolism-boosting juice.” The box comes with instructions and a consultation with their staff nutritionist. Pro tip: Remember to drink water in addition to the juices.

HEALTHY SNACKS
Griffy’s also stocks plenty of edible options, including three varieties of hummus (carrot, red pepper and original), guacamole, fermented foods (sauerkraut and Moroccan beets) as well as selections that can satisfy your sweet tooth; a mindful truffle (coconut truffle with organic ingredients), the popular Griffy’s cup (it’s a spin on a peanut butter cup with organic chocolate, date and peanut butter) and all-natural glazed blueberry donut holes.
