Lenny Magill of Brentwood, an internationally recognized firearms authority with expertise in Glock® handguns and the founder of the GlockStore in Nashville, was never comfortable honing his shooting skills in a lane range. “You have people shooting next to you who you don’t know, and it’s noisy,” he says.

People trying to learn how to shoot are at a bigger disadvantage at these types of ranges. “When someone is shooting next to you, that's a big distraction, especially when you can't even hear the instructor or really concentrate on what you’re doing.”

Shooting at one target down a lane can also get boring after a while, and there are many restrictions on what people can and can’t do. Lenny knew there had to be a better way, so he put his experience and creativity into action to develop a revolutionary concept called Shoot270°.

“We found that the private one-on-one experience with an instructor is what drives this thing.”

Shooting, he says, is a perishable skill, to stay proficient, practice is key, especially when it comes to defending oneself. Doing it in a more real-life setting allows for the best training.

“We can turn the lights down and make it look like a true nighttime situation in your house. If you have a laser or light on your gun, you’re able to practice with that too. You can walk down a hallway, shoot targets, and do things that you would do in a home environment in a self-defense situation.”

Clients can also draw from a holster and shoot at multiple targets in multiple directions as fast as possible, which is not possible in lane ranges.

Men and women come from all over to train with Shoot270°.  “We've taken ladies who are absolutely terrified of guns, but maybe they’re home alone and afraid, so they want to learn how to properly use one.”

Lenny says once you understand the concept, shooting is easier than golf or tennis. “Even after just two sessions, these women are doing great, and that’s fun to see.”

Since it’s private, newcomers feel much more comfortable because there's no pressure or expectations. “It's a lot more relaxed because it's really about you. We have couples and families come in, and everybody has a great experience.”

Most people bring their own guns (which don’t have to be Glocks), but rental guns, including machine guns, are available, too. When it comes to sales, the store bills itself as the “World's #1 Source for Glock Parts & Accessories.”

“We have basically every Glock model, and everything is manufactured right here in Nashville,” says Lenny.

“Most people have this tool and want to learn how to use it and how to be proficient with it, even though they never want to have to use it. So if you train with it in the proper way, and something does happen, you're going to know what to do. That's why consistent training is very important.”
