Soaring to New Heights

Aerial yoga inspires each workout to be magical and freeing.

Suspended from the ceiling, they fly through the air. Reaching new heights both physically and mentally. Wrapped in the warmth of the silk and swinging the day away. Aerial Yoga is the art of traditional yoga by way of silk hammocks and aerial trapeze bars.  Traditional yoga mat poses are taught and performed solely in the hammocks, while suspended from the ceiling.

Suzanne Lawhead has been teaching yoga for 30 years. In 2010, she fell in love with aerial yoga and later became certified. In 2019, she opened Aerial Yoga PTC where she could share her knowledge and love with the community. When you walk through the doors of Aerial Yoga PTC you are engrossed with aerial yoga, arts, silks and trapeze. “Aerial yoga and the aerial arts are for everyone age 6 to 60 and beyond. It is a chance to explore, fly, and be free. All in a safe and comfortable environment,” Suzanne shares.

Before opening her studio, aerial arts had not been present in our community. While this was a big task to take on, it did not discourage Suzanne. “I wanted to bring something to our community that was new and inspiring, and still in the realm of Yoga.” Aerial yoga is different than traditional mat yoga. “The body has more freedom of movement; standard poses are enhanced with the use of the aerial hammock,” Suzanne explains. “Greater flexibly is attained, with the support of the hammock. And there is less pressure on the joints.”

Over 500 people of all ages and levels have stepped foot inside her studio, embarking on the journey of the aerial arts. Suzanne has patiently taught and motivated each one. There’s a level of risk when practicing these aerial silks. The studio is filled with mats and classes are small, allowing her to give each student personalized attention.

After each session, students participate in a performance where they can showcase their newly found skills. With each class, students become more confident in their bodies while conquering their fears. Every class is an opportunity for connection. “To have a dream you believe in, and have the grace and determination to endure, and build on that dream, and share with the world, there’s no greater gift. I am so blessed and happy, to share the gift of Aerial Yoga PTC to our community.”
