Glastonbury has a new gathering spot. Social Lounge, which opened in June in Somerset Square, is a cozy, intimate bar with a unique charm that sets it apart in the town's social scene.
It was founded by Marc Aberuzzi, a seasoned bar owner with over 20 years' experience and who grew up in Glastonbury. Social Lounge, Marc believes, fills a niche here in town: A place that stays open late enough for those who want to gather with friends or coworkers later in the evening.
“Everything shuts down too early here and there wasn’t a true late-night spot to grab a drink or unwind," says Christa Fitzgerald, Social Lounge’s general manager.
Unlike larger venues, Social Lounge offers an intimate setting with a capacity of around 60 people. It’s not just about size, though—it’s about the vibe. The lounge has a relaxed, chill atmosphere that invites you to sit back and stay awhile. With a cozy patio, a couch, and soft lighting, it’s the perfect place to settle in for a few hours with friends, or even solo, Christa says.
“If you want to come in and relax, we’re going to let you do your thing.”
The Social Lounge is open seven days a week, and their hours cater to the late-night crowd. From Sunday to Thursday, they’re open until 1 a.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays, they stay open until 2 a.m. For those who work late or just prefer to unwind later in the evening, the lounge offers a welcoming haven with happy hours from 3-6 p.m. and again from 10 p.m. to midnight.
The menu is just as inviting as the bar's space, featuring small plates, flatbreads, and homemade meatballs—all comfort foods that complement their selection of tap beers, wines, and specialty cocktails. On Fridays and Saturdays, a DJ spins tunes that match the laid-back mood, adjusting the music to the crowd’s vibe. Whether you’re hosting a private party or just spending an evening out, the atmosphere feels like home.
Marc’s vision was to create a space where people could connect, unwind, and feel like part of a community and Social Lounge lives up to its name—everyone is encouraged to interact, making the place feel more like the TV bar Cheers, where everyone knows your name. It’s not just a place to grab a drink; it’s a place to stay, socialize, and feel good.
