When did you first become interested in music?
“From early childhood, I always loved listening to music. As I recall, I didn’t become interested in performing for others until I was about 14 years old. However, my mother remembers things differently. She said that I have been singing since I was two years old.”
What is your favorite musical genre?
“I have a deep passion for classical and contemporary soul as well as rhythm and blues music. I love songs with feeling – songs that touch the soul. I find that this genre helps me make a real connection with my listeners that enables me to make a positive contribution to their lives.”
What musical artists have influenced you?
“I have been influenced by numerous performers in my life, spanning multiple genres and generations. I am inspired by ‘singers’ singers’ – the artists whose legendary vocal talents are held in high regard by other performers. Some of my personal favorites are Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cook, Nat King Cole, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Andy Williams and Tony Bennett.”
What is your most memorable performance?
“My greatest memory is singing my song ‘There Will Come A Day’ at the 2022 Hendersonville Freedom Festival. The song is very special to me, and it had just spent four weeks in the number one position of the 2022 European Independent Artist Airplay Chart.”
Who is your mentor?
“While I have learned from many people, the one who mentored me the most was the late Danniebelle Hall. Danniebelle had a beautiful voice that she dedicated to serving God by preaching His word through gospel music.”
What motivates you?
“I am motivated to discover and fulfill God’s purpose for my life. I consider myself to be an encourager, and I am driven to uplift and inspire others through my singing.”
If you could go back in time and give your younger self any advice, what would it be?
“This question is easy. I would have listened to my grandfather and let him teach me to play the piano, as he attempted to do time and time again.”
What makes Hendersonville so special for you?
“Hendersonville has been a place of musical birth for me. I have been embraced by my friends and neighbors, and I have been privileged to perform at several local venues and events. Some of my recent performances have been at the 2022 Farmers and Artisan Market, the 2022 Freedom Festival, the 2022 Sparkle Night and Tree Lighting Celebration, the 2023 Summer Concert Series at the Streets of Indian Lake and the 2023 SumnerFest. Other local venues/events where I have appeared include Jolly Ollie’s, the Rudder at Anchor High Marina and a Sumner Young Professionals luncheon at the Streets. I also served as a judge for the 2023 Freedom Festival ‘Hendersonville Has Talent’ preliminary and final competitions.”
When you are not working, what do you like to do in your spare time?
“I love saltwater fishing. It is both challenging and relaxing at the same time.”
