Five questions to ask before choosing your med spa

If you’re looking for non-surgical treatments to rejuvenate your skin and body, a med spa is the place for you. A med spa combines the specialized medical knowledge of an aesthetic medical center with the luxuries of a day spa to provide non-surgical aesthetic medical services under the supervision of a licensed physician.

Especially as minimally invasive procedures become more popular, med spas are popping up all over the country. Brittany Richie, patient care coordinator at PRC Rejuvenation Center on Lewis, shares her top five tips on choosing the best med spa for you and your body's needs.

1. Look for an excellent, accommodating staff

It's so important that you know that a board-certified physician is performing your services. The physician should be properly trained, knowledgeable, and experienced in the procedure you're looking to have done. The physician should be able to give you a detailed walk-through of the entire procedure and any possible side effects.

2. Find the med spa that offers the right services for you

Innovative treatment options in the med spa industry grow by the day, so whether you're looking for Botox or a simple facial, you want to know what services are available through the med spas you're considering. PRC Rejuvenation offers a wide variety of services, including Botox, micro-needling, hair removal, cell and IV therapies, and so much more. We also offer free consultations to help walk you through the pros and cons of potential treatment options.

3. Check great (or not-so-great) reviews

Reviews aren't just for restaurants and nail salons! One way to tell if the med spa and its medical personnel are reputable and qualified is by reading patient testimonials and reviews. Be sure to visit the websites of the med spas you're considering to read about others' experiences, and don't forget to check Google and Facebook as well.

4. Shop around and compare prices

Some spas may offer specials or discounted prices, but med spa services are usually reasonable. You'll want to double-check prices as you research potential providers, because pricing often changes with the seasons. If a med spa doesn't list prices on their menu of services, be sure to ask and find out whether there are any add-ons or extra fees. When you shop around for a med spa, take each one's prices into account. This way, you’ll know what the going rate is for the treatments.

5. Pick a med spa that's conveniently located

Location does matter when choosing a medical spa, especially because some services may require more than one follow-up visit, so you'll want to be sure to find a convenient, close location.
