Spencer's Grill

A Monroe family favorite

In 2010, my family moved here from DC. One of my top priorities was finding a local business where myself, my wife, and my daughter could become regulars. Spencer's Grill got us from week one. We go every Saturday morning. My wife and daughter both have their regular orders - #3, over medium eggs with rye toast; and a toasted bagel with cream cheese and hot chocolate with no whip, respectively. I tend to trust whatever the special is. It has ranged from burgers that I get made into omelets to chicken and waffles. The staff knows us so well that when I call in and say, "Hey, it's Rob Monroe," the staff responds, "Okay, so a number 3..."

Spencer's is our first-day-of-school breakfast and half-day lunch location for me and my daughter.

My daughter celebrated her 8th birthday at Spencer's. The owner silenced the entire restaurant so that a waitress with an amazing voice could sing "Happy Birthday." Then, the chef served my daughter a special birthday pancake with ice cream. That made my daughter's day, her week, and her year. She's almost 13 and still talks about that part of her birthday.

Spencer's is family for my family.
