Across Birmingham and Bloomfield Township, pet owners are embracing a growing trend that goes far beyond basic grooming. Blueberry facials, detox mud baths, spa-quality shampoos, paw-conditioning treatments and personalized wellness care: All are on menus nearby, designed to keep beloved pets healthy, comfortable — and beautiful.
“We see people who really want to invest in their dog’s health and well-being,“ says Adam Neff, owner of Scenthound Birmingham (scenthound.com/birmingham). “A lot of what we do focuses on routine care and keeping dogs healthy.“
One of the biggest seasonal requests at Scenthound is de-shedding treatments. As dogs shed their winter and summer coats, owners are looking for ways to reduce the tumbleweeds of fur rolling across living room floors.
“Special shampoos and extra brush-outs help get rid of the shedding, or at least cut down on it,“ Neff says.
Scenthound takes a wellness-first approach to grooming, focusing on services such as ear cleaning, nail trimming, teeth brushing and skin and coat assessments. The goal is preventive care rather than simply making a dog look good for a few days.

“The purifying mud treatment helps clean the skin and leaves the coat softer,“ Aguirre says.
But the biggest luxury isn’t necessarily the products.
“What clients value most is the attention to detail and the personalized care each pet receives,“ she says.
“It’s not just about looking good,“ Neff says. “It’s about helping dogs stay healthy.“
