GREENWOOD | PARKS, RECREATION

Greenwood Parks and Recreation Department staffers are providing enhancements to facilities including updated fitness equipment. During 2024, the Greenwood Sports Park opened, allowing community residents and visitors to enjoy a second splash pad, new playground and additional playing fields. This year, staffers are expanding youth and adult sports programming there. Don't forget about upcoming summer and fall concert series. In the Greenwood Community Garden, residents can rent 20 x 20-foot plots to grow plants, flowers, fruits and vegetables. The garden also is used by community organizations to provide fresh local food to underserved populations. To reserve garden plots, call 317.881.4545.

GREENWOOD | NONPROFIT ASSISTANCE EXAMPLES

Local residents can receive assistance for mental health through 2nd Chance Ministries Incorporated or human services through Women For Change Coaching Community. Kingdom Missions Collective is a network of local churches working together to increase community outreach, including arts and culture and food banks. Kreative Kompassion supporters provide those in need of household essentials and personal care items, especially for developments such as home fires. The Refuge is a faith-based community outreach center that’s supported by local churches, organizations, businesses and individuals to provide assistance for physical, emotional, academic and spiritual needs.

GREENWOOD | IDENTITY AND VITALITY

Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers recently delivered a State of the City address at Greenwood Fieldhouse: “As we look ahead to 2025 and beyond, the road to continued success is paved by our shared dedication to growth, innovation and unity." He says this year there's funding for personnel and improvements in police and fire departments. He also outlines multiple planning initiatives, including continued infrastructure improvements, expanded partnership with local educational institutions to support aviation training for the Indy South Greenwood Airport, new retail and dining establishments, and additional single-family and apartment developments.

BARGERSVILLE | ARTS, PARKS, RECREATION

Bargersville is becoming well-known for the town's free summer concert series and Movies Under the Stars offerings. Storytime at the Bargersville Community Center will be a highlight in 2025. Tasty Tuesdays bring together local food trucks offering meals, sweet treats and refreshing drinks. Many enjoy the Cars & Coffee series hosted at Maple Grove Elementary; this year’s dates are June 1,  July 13,  Aug. 3,  Oct. 5. The Santa Train/Holiday Market in December is popular, too. Parks and Recreation Board members adopted the 2023-2027 Parks 5-Year Master Plan to guide the growth and development of the Parks Department.

BARGERSVILLE | NONPROFIT ASSISTANCE EXAMPLE

Neighborhood mini food pantries provide free non-perishable food at Bargersville First Christian Church; alley between East Street and Carlisle Street; Bluff Creek Christian Church. Donated canned goods are accepted at Bargersville First Christian Church from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The Interchurch Food Pantry of Johnson County provides people with food at no cost to them. Johnson County residents who are homebound can have their food delivered to their homes. The Alex and Ali Foundation is a nonprofit organization that empowers young adults with autism and other developmental disabilities through meaningful employment opportunities and vocational training. 

BARGERSVILLE | IDENTITY AND VITALITY

Happy 175th Anniversary, Bargersville! On Feb. 7, 1850, Bargersville was officially platted and named after the first resident, Jefferson Barger, marking the beginning of the town’s rich history. Now, Bargersville Main Street is a nonprofit organization whose supporters are committed to highlighting and improving the community’s features. They value and promote the small-town charm, agricultural roots and community atmosphere for which Bargersville is known. They also spotlight the town's quality of life, promoting it as a wonderful place to work, visit and live. 

GREENWOOD | ENVIRONMENT

The four pillars on which Greenwood is Public Safety, Infrastructure, Economic Development and Quality of Life. Greenwood offers 17 park across 400 acres, plus three dog parks, and 50-plus miles of trails. Other recreation and open spaces can be found at the Greenwood Community Center, Greenwood Fieldhouse, Freedom Springs Aquatic Park and Greenwood Amphitheater. Historically, City Center Park served as home to Greenwood’s public pool and was originally known as Pool Park. In 2013, the 5-acre park on Lincoln Street in downtown Greenwood took on a new name and a new purpose.

GREENWOOD | ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Mayor Mark emphasizes the growing success of Greenwood’s economy through various investments. “I'm proud of our ability to invest in growth without burdening taxpayers. We have made our operations more efficient, utilized cost-effective financing and secured grants to support key initiatives.” Projects, such as the Main Street Streetscape project and upcoming traffic improvements, help to position Greenwood for success, while keeping the city’s tax rate low and stable, he adds. "Whether it’s attracting new businesses, improving our infrastructure or enhancing city services, we'll continue to make decisions that ensure a prosperous future for all who call Greenwood home.”

BARGERSVILLE | ENVIRONMENT

The town is part of 56 trails covering 297 miles to explore. Locally, there are five parks and 8 miles of trails. Plus, downtown Bargersville presents the Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) initiative to help the downtown atmosphere be a walkable outdoor atmosphere and to incentivize more businesses and restaurants to locate in the area. It's recognized from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily within the designated boundary. To participate, purchase a beverage from a designated DORA permittee.

BARGERSVILLE | ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Town officials adopted a downtown revitalization plan during September 2015. Then, after nearly a year of public input and feedback, they adopted the Bargersville VISION 2040 Comprehensive Plan update. Aspire Economic Development + Chamber Alliance drives economic development and business success in Johnson County by leveraging community development opportunities and providing comprehensive member services for entrepreneurs, small businesses and large corporations. Five representatives of the Redevelopment Commission oversee and administrate redevelopment needs and tax districts in Bargersville.
