St. Patrick’s Day began in 1631 when the Church established a Feast Day honoring St. Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland. Irish Christians removed the restrictions associated with Lent on this day and threw large parties and feasts.
Green beer is commonly attributed to physician Thomas H. Curtin who created it around 1914 for the Schnorrer Club in the Bronx.
The first Margarita is said to have been created between 1938 and 1942. Here’s an upscale version of the green cocktail to enjoy on St. Patrick’s Day.
