Sometimes the best ideas begin with a simple question.

For Austin entrepreneur Mozhgan Mizban, it was this: Why are people still bending over a bathroom counter to use a beauty mirror?

That moment of frustration sparked an idea that would consume nearly a decade of her life. Eight years later, the result is the MoGlow Mirror, a patented beauty mirror that extends to eye level, allowing users to stand comfortably while applying makeup, shaving, or completing their daily beauty routine. The innovative design earned the prestigious 2025 GOOD DESIGN Award before the product officially launched earlier this year.

"I wanted the mirror to adapt to me instead of me adapting to the mirror," Mizban said.

The concept may sound simple, but bringing it to life was anything but.

Working alongside her husband, an engineer, Mizban spent years refining the mirror's patented telescoping mechanism, collaborating with engineering firms before ultimately partnering with Austin-area industrial designers and mechanical engineers to perfect the product. The finished mirror now holds three patents and features distortion-free 3x and 10x magnification, 12 adjustable lighting settings, a rechargeable battery and a cordless design that moves easily throughout the home.

Surprisingly, Mizban didn't come from the consumer products industry.

Her career has been spent in strategic planning and marketing for premium law firms, experience she says translated naturally into building a luxury brand centered on solving a real-world problem.

"How do we serve our clients? How do we deliver the best experience?" she said. "Those are the same questions I asked while building MoGlow."

The company's launch also marked a new chapter personally.

Mizban began developing MoGlow in her early 50s while continuing to work part-time, self-funding the company alongside her husband.

"I genuinely believed I had one more professional go in me," she said. "I'm filled with life and energy, and I'm so curious and excited."

Although MoGlow officially launched only a few months ago, Mizban knows building a brand is a marathon, not a sprint.

"We're going to do it once. We're going to do it well. We're going to give it our best shot," she said. "We're putting everything on the line."

For Mizban, however, MoGlow has always been about more than mirrors.

She believes the moments spent getting ready each morning influence how people carry themselves throughout the day.

"I wanted to know walking in that I was prepared and looked the part because I certainly felt the part," she said. "I wanted to walk in and have others in the room feel my presence."

That philosophy extends beyond beauty.

Customers praise the mirror's comfort, premium aesthetics and functionality, while many say it has become an everyday essential. Even husbands have claimed their partner's mirror for shaving, prompting families to purchase a second one.

For her, success isn't measured only in sales. It's proving that determination, thoughtful design and a willingness to challenge convention can improve an everyday experience.

After all, style doesn't begin with the outfit. It begins with the confidence reflected in the mirror.

"We weren't just building a better mirror. We were building a beauty tool that makes daily routines more comfortable and confident."
