Experience Good Shepherd Lutheran Church’s unique Christmas production Follow The Star

Mark your calendar for December 5th through 7th! Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is bringing the magic of Christmas to life with its 13th annual Follow The Star.

This isn’t your average holiday nativity—it’s the full story of Jesus Christ. Coming together thanks to 300 cast and crew members, you can walk or drive through 10 immersive scenes complete with scripture storyboards. This grew from Pastor Marty Brauer’s vision, which he brought with him after two decades of operation in California. The production now extends internationally to Brazil.

“Follow The Star came at a time when Good Shepherd was just trying to do something that was going to bring the congregation together and bless our community,” says Pastor Steven Headley. “As the pastor of a church who gets to do this, it’s so moving to see people give up their time to serve others and share that joy.”

Following last year’s production, Headley recalls a teenage girl who wrote to Good Shepherd about just how life-changing her experience had been. There was also a time when a young boy, in attendance with his mom struggling through cancer, gave the change in his pocket with a request to make sure Follow The Star keeps going.

“My son asked me once what I thought his favorite month was. He said December because we get to do Follow The Star,” says Headley. “Sometimes out of the mouth of children comes the most beautiful truth. And that’s the message I conveyed back to the congregation—that we get to do this and know that God got to see this happen through these 13 years.”

In partnership with Hill Country Community Ministries, Follow The Star continues to make a difference for Greater Austin. To date, attendees have helped raise over $51,000 and 44,435 pounds of food for those in need. This year, you can be a part of that.
