Hewlett & Dunn Boot and Jean Co.

Planning a family vacation out west? Or his birthday at Hernando’s Hideway? He’ll need some custom boots, and we know the best place in town. Possibilities are endless with countless skins, colors and designs. Charles Hall has worked at Hewlett & Dunn since 1997. He and wife, Laura, became sole proprietors in 2020. After you finish your boot scheme, all the way down to the “toe bug” stitching, make sure you pick up a shirt by Kimes, a straw cowboy hat (you’ll learn why that is seasonal) and a good new pair of work - or play - pants. And they carry Duckhead. Just like he wore in college. Go visit them on the Collierville Square.

MK Skincare

Don’t let your husband use bar soap as a facial product. Skip ahead and fill his medicine cabinet with MK Skincare. Locals Maria Miller and Kate Umsted have a cult following. Having practiced medical aesthetics for over 34 years combined, they saw a few holes in the marketplace. Launching in 2020, the products are easy to use, cleanly packaged and not fussy. We use the Daily Glow and Power Glow pads. The Daily Hydration is light and layers well with their spf product, Protect Your Investment. Ladies, book a facial with them at The Well@Pavo (owned by Maria). Figure out which Vitamin C product works with your skin type (and take care of Father’s Day too)!

Fern at La Grange

Take the father in your life for a drive to La Grange, TN. The entire town is on the historical register. You’ll be sure to spend time in Fern at La Grange, a specialty shop for house and field. Owner Allison Treadwell is a Memphis transplant and curates the shop’s American and English antiques with Alice Renovich. We love these solid brass belt buckles, cast from a wax carving for a special dad. For his office, we suggest their vintage gallery rugs or woven shades for his desk lamp. Don’t miss the sportsman’s line Tom Beckbe and even some treasures from Paris.

Nature’s Balance

Does your father always claim that he’s “gotta guy” for that? Alex Boggan created Nature’s Balance in 2017 after an 18 year run in the landscaping business. You won’t find his name on a truck down Poplar; Alex is hard to find and all referral based. Start with his mosquito service. He uses essential oils in the spray but uses traps for larvae, breaking the life cycle in your yard. Nature’s Balance doesn’t mow or plant - but we love his ornamental tree, lawn, turf and bed maintenance.

Marmilu Farms

After Caleb Curlin retired from the Army Ranger Special Forces, he and wife, Betsy, spent two years learning from the internationally acclaimed farmer, Joel Salatin and his son Daniel of Polyface Farms in Virginia.  Betsy and Caleb set up their pasture-based farm just down I-40 in Jackson, TN in 2015. Their grass-fed animals roam and rotate in a “pastoral dance” regenerating the soil. The result is chicken, beef, pork, lamb, and eggs that are delicious, healthy and beneficial to the environment.  Is Saturday morning the one day your husband messes up the kitchen? Order the Breakfast Box. Best to add the Sampler Box as well. Sign up for a Memphis delivery.
