Ryan Schreck is a rising Frisco freshman who loves to read, so much so, he's writing books for others to enjoy. To date, both of his works are entertaining children's adventure stories about talking animals.
"As a toddler, I always liked animals and used to line up stuffed animals. One of my favorite books when I was young was Charlotte’s Web," he recalls, adding he currently enjoys The Wind in the Willows.
He says his intrigue with animals kept progressing after studying wildlife in his family's backyard.
Ryan is also an avid soccer player and says he relishes being around nature and wildlife. Some of his other interests include geography and history. He is homeschooled, taking classes either from his mother, Jamie Schreck, or THEO Christian Solutions teachers.
He was one of the authors who participated in the Frisco Book Fest during April at the Frisco Public Library. Here are synopses from his two books.
The Quest of the Mice: they may be small, but they are mighty
Max is just an ordinary mouse living an ordinary life with his 157 siblings. However, when his younger brother, Milton, is mousenapped by a powerful group of villains with deadly intentions, Max and his family must race against the clock to save Milton, evading obstacles more dangerous than anything they could've imagined. But will they be too late? Featuring deadly traps, dastardly foes, daring escapes and dynamic characters, this story is sure to become a top choice on every bookshelf.
The Adventures of Rodney: a little rabbit with a big heart
At first glance, Rodney may seem like an ordinary rabbit. But when trouble arises and a dark evil lurks, this adventurous critter proves big heroes can come in small packages. Featuring a host of lovable (and not-so-lovable) characters you could find in your own backyard, this heartwarming tale of facing fears and learning to trust yourself is bound to become a family favorite.
"My books are about not judging someone else on surface levels and the importance of perseverance. Everyone's dealing with their own personal life battles," he states, saying he plans to add several more books to his series.
Ryan's books are available on Amazon: $8.99 paperback; $3.99 Kindle edition.
Frisco resident Ryan Schreck, 14, has self-published two books so far: The Adventures of Rodney and The Quest of the Mice. He says both novels, ideally geared for readers 9 to 12 years old, are inspired by interactions he had with animals in his own backyard. At press time, he was composing a third book about a squirrel named Scout.
