After more than two decades safeguarding global networks, Anthony Vigilante decided it was time to help people strengthen something far more personal: themselves.
Today, the longtime Montvale resident is the proud owner of two Alloy Personal Training franchises, one in Saddle River and the other in Old Tappan, where his mission is simple: to help people over 40 live stronger, healthier, and more connected lives.
“I’ve always loved fitness,” Vigilante said. “Even when I worked in Manhattan in cybersecurity, I was the one friends called for workout or nutrition advice. It’s always been my passion. I just needed the right time to follow it.”
Before fitness became his full-time focus, Vigilante spent more than 20 years in the technology world, serving as a chief information security officer in New York City. But after achieving career success, he decided to invest his energy into something that felt more meaningful.
“I reached a point where I thought, I’ve built my career, now I want to build my dream,” he said.
That dream came in the form of Alloy Personal Training, a boutique franchise founded by fitness pioneer Rick Mayo. The brand, which began franchising in 2018, was designed around a simple principle: to help people, especially those often overlooked by mainstream gyms, live their best lives through fitness and community.
“Alloy focuses on adults 40 and older, which really resonated with me,” Vigilante said. “Most gyms target twenty-somethings. We focus on people who want longevity, mobility, and confidence.”
Each Alloy studio runs on a small-group personal training model, limiting classes to six participants. Members receive one-on-one attention from certified trainers and something else they don’t expect: friendship.
“When you’re 40 or 50, it’s not easy to make new friends,” Vigilante said. “But our clients work out together, laugh together, and hold each other accountable. It’s like a family.”
Each new member begins with a Starting Point Session, a complimentary assessment that includes a full-body scan and movement evaluation. From there, trainers customize workouts based on individual goals and ability levels.
The result is a setting Vigilante proudly describes as “The Ritz-Carlton meets Cheers.”
“You walk in, and everyone knows your name,” he said. “We’ll ask how your vacation was or how your mom’s doing. It’s personal. It’s high-end, but it’s also home.”
Vigilante opened his Saddle River studio in May and his Old Tappan location in August. Both quickly found success, in part because Alloy’s close-knit, appointment-based approach fits perfectly with what people now seek in a gym experience.
“After the pandemic, people didn’t want to walk into huge gyms with a thousand strangers anymore,” he said. “They wanted space, comfort, and connection. Alloy offers all of that.”
Instead of endless rows of equipment, the studios emphasize guided training, accountability, and measurable progress. Monthly check-ins and body composition analyses help members stay on track and motivated.
“It’s not about perfection,” Vigilante said. “It’s about consistency. Showing up is 90 percent of the work. We help you do the rest.”
For Vigilante, the real reward comes from watching lives change.
“People tell me, ‘I couldn’t keep up with my grandkids, now I can,’” he said. “Or, ‘I used to struggle carrying groceries, but now I feel independent again.’ Those are the stories that matter.”
He’s seen clients regain confidence, rediscover hobbies, and even transform their health metrics.
“Building muscle isn’t about becoming bulky,” he said. “It’s about being capable. When you feel strong, everything else in life improves – your sleep, your stress, your confidence.”
Alloy’s philosophy goes beyond the hour spent in the gym. Trainers coach clients on nutrition, hydration, and balanced living without the rigidity of diet culture.
“We don’t tell people to give up ice cream or pizza,” Vigilante said. “It’s about moderation and mindfulness. Fitness should enhance your life, not restrict it.”
Through Alloy’s partnerships with nutritionists, clients can receive deeper guidance when needed. “Our team is always available, by text, call, or email, whatever it takes to keep people supported,” he said.
Vigilante, who has lived in Montvale for 20 years, takes pride in running a business that invests in his own community.
“I’ve always loved this area, Old Tappan, Saddle River, Montvale,” he said. “They’re incredible towns filled with people who truly care about one another. I wanted to bring something here that reflects that spirit.”
With both studios thriving, Vigilante is already exploring a third Alloy location in Bergen County. But his focus remains the same: to help his neighbors live fuller, stronger lives.
“I get to watch people walk in uncertain and walk out confident,” he said. “That’s everything to me. I built this to make a difference, and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”
