When David Southers and his wife Virginia Lazala moved to Atlanta in 2018, they wanted to open a business that would benefit the people in their new community. David, whose background is in social services, and Virginia, who is a corporate lawyer, were also looking for a healthier, more laid back lifestyle.
Before leaving their home state of New Jersey, they started taking classes at Kika Stretch Studio in Montclair. The Kika Method®, a gentle assisted stretching process that encourages the reduction of stress and the elimination of pain in order to feel more energized, was founded by Hakika (“Kika”) DuBose, a dancer and personal trainer.
“If you feel better, you have more energy and more drive to do the things that you want to do, versus just thinking about them,” said David.
When Kika found out they were moving to Atlanta, she asked if they would be interested in opening their own Kika Stretch Studio. Since David and Virginia loved the way they felt after attending her sessions, they said yes. And, they found the perfect location right in Vinings (Ivy Walk). Since the whole space has been redone, everything is new. Clients have their own private room with their stretch coaches, who are trained and certified in the Kika Method®.
The stretches are tailored to what you can and want to do. No one is pushed beyond what is comfortable. Kika Stretch Studio treats children, teens and adults, including pregnant women and those with serious disabilities. Coaches can even come to your home or facility.
“Stretch studios are starting to catch on around the country. They’re the newest modality in health, fitness and wellness,” said David.
