Amelia, a junior at Allen High School, is bubbly, kind, and busy—but there's something special about her mornings. She arrives at school with Pruitt, a service dog in training. “He’s definitely one of the highlights of everyone's day,” she says. Through the Allen FFA’s partnership with Canine Companions, Amelia is teaching Pruitt basic commands so that he may enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities.

But this wasn’t always her path. “I didn't originally  know what I was gonna do in high school,” she recalls. But when her friend Campbell suggested Ag Sciences, Amelia decided to join in. At first, Amelia thought she may want to be a vet, but a hatred for “anything yucky” led her to change her mind. “I want to be an agricultural educator. My Ag teacher, Mr. Brill, inspired me to do it. So now I'm just following his footsteps.”

In addition to being the secretary of the Allen High School FFA and raising Pruitt, Amelia also enjoys the Flower of the Month club for students in floral design. Once a month, Amelia makes a flower arrangement to give to someone. "It’s definitely something really cool that we do at Allen.”

Amelia stays busy with the many different activities offered by Allen High School’s chapter of the FFA. Here are some fast facts about this special student!

  • Amelia’s favorite TV show is Gilmore Girls.
  • She’s often visited the UK, where her family is from, but she hopes to visit more of Europe in the future.
  • Her favorite food is her mom’s spaghetti hot dogs.
