The Room to Grow Luncheon brings Dallas together to support hospitalized children with compassion and colorful transformation.

Every spring, Dallas comes alive with generosity and glamour for one of its most heartwarming and stylish philanthropic events. The 7th Annual Room to Grow Luncheon, benefitting Dec My Room, transformed NorthPark’s South Court into a lush, exotic escape. Surrounded by the mall’s renowned collection of Jonathan Borofsky’s “Five Hammering Men” and an abundance of over-the-top florals, guests gathered to support a mission rooted in love: transforming hospital rooms into healing havens for children in extended care.

This year’s safari-themed setting wasn’t just eye-catching—it set the tone for an afternoon of philanthropy, fashion, and heartfelt storytelling. “From the flower-bedecked boxwood photo wall to the gorgeous table centerpieces, the feel transported attendees from Dallas to a far-away locale,” shared Heather Smith, Dec My Room North Dallas area director.

With the help of dedicated co-chairs Ashley O’Malley and Heather Winn, the event sold out weeks in advance; its fastest sell-out to date, even accommodating extra guests at tables. “It was a true testament to the Dallas community’s support,” Smith noted.

One of the afternoon’s highlights was a sophisticated fashion presentation led by Neiman Marcus’s Jodi Kahn and Bruce Pask. Showcasing stylish, curated looks for both women and men, the show left guests buzzing—and shopping. “Many fashion pieces were purchased by very lucky attendees!” Smith shared.

But beyond the glamour, the luncheon honored two meaningful lives. Dallas philanthropist Kameron Westcott was recognized for her steadfast support of Dec My Room, and attendees were deeply touched by the story of Ellison Liechty, a young girl who received one of the organization’s room makeovers before passing away. Her mother, Julie, shared her perspective on how a personalized hospital space brought peace during an unimaginable time. “Attendees were visibly moved, especially the parents,” Smith shared. “Her story inspired donations to create more rooms and mental health transformations.”

Thanks to the outpouring of support, this year’s luncheon exceeded all fundraising expectations. “Hundreds of children’s rooms are now fully funded,” Smith announced. “And special projects we’ve hoped to begin are now possible at North Texas children’s hospitals.”

Adding to the afternoon’s excitement, the luxury raffle and Big Board auction generated plenty of buzz this year. “The NorthPark Spending Spree was the most coveted raffle item,” Smith shared. “And the donation of the Hästens bed was a major talking point—our largest single fundraising item this year!” A luxury Cabo Casita stay for eight was another fan favorite.

Made possible by the seamless collaboration with NorthPark Center, Neiman Marcus, Bread Winners Café & Bakery, and Zodiac Staffing, the luncheon once again proved to be a beautiful blend of style, purpose, and community spirit.

Looking ahead, the Dec My Room team invites the community to get involved through year-round donations, volunteering, service projects, and continued advocacy. As this beloved luncheon continues to grow, its mission remains unchanged: to surround hospitalized children with comfort, color, and compassion—one room at a time.

“With the help of attendees’ support, hundreds of children’s rooms are now fully funded, and special projects we’ve hoped to begin are funded for our North Texas children’s hospitals.”
