Summer Adventures Within Driving Distance!

With summer just around the corner, plan adventures that you can get to in under 2 hours, perfect for a weekend getaway or a couple of days to experience something new. You don’t have to go far to experience new things with those you love and laugh with! Check out these amazing facilities and all they have to offer!

Humboldt, Kansas (1 hour & 45 min. away)

Basecamp Humboldt is a place for a retreat for you and your friends or a private self retreat. Named in The New York Times as one of the “ ‘52 Places’ for a Changed world in 2022.” With its Scandinavian design-inspired cabins, quaint quarters that include a queen bed, running water, and a small fridge, you are set for the weekend. You can book them on Airbnb and with this location, it is the perfect 1.5 half getaway from Kansas City. With each cabin rental comes the use of canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and bikes, and with the cabins rental sitting at right about $100 (date and time of year contingent) it is a wonderful place for those “people who want to get away from the city.” If you are not a super outdoorsy person, don’t worry, while your friends are off on the lake and biking somewhere along the 60-mile trail, you can be shopping in downtown Humboldt where you will find boutique shops, locally owned and the best candy shop according to locals. Be sure to stop into Bijou Confectionary to select your own candies or sweets between Tuesday and Saturday. Come back to Basecamp and whether you are there with a loved one or rent out all three cabins for a girl's weekend, you will reconnect with the slower pace you have been craving, taking a break from the city life.

Hamilton, Missouri (1.5 hours away)

Hawley Farms was a dream born out of Donna Vaughn’s heart and love for those who need respite, as she was one herself. After working in the restaurant industry for over a decade, she went to their land and took time to rest, think and consider the future. As she sat there, she realized that many people needed that space, both mentally and literally, and a dream was planted for her to start Hawley Farm Glamping Site.

With three glamping sites nestled on 210 acres of land, you are secluded and can enjoy upscale excellence within the great outdoors. Each site is five acres from the other, so you have privacy for other guests but are within walking distance, if you go as a group. Each site includes a bed, heater for the colder months, and air conditioning for the warmer ones, so there is no reason to not get a great night's sleep after taking a shower from the solar-powered shower. With easy access to each site, you can drive right up to your own getaway and enjoy the respite and quietness of nature all the while enjoying the luxury of glamping. With a two-night minimum, this is the perfect place to come, rest, rejuvenate and be restored over 48 hours.

With the beauty and restoration that happens at Hawley Farms, so does a heart to serve. Set up on their website is the option to “sponsor a nurse.” Donna has a heart for nurses and the struggle they are going through right now, so you can sponsor a nurse (which is a tax-deductible donation), so they can receive the wonderful experience of staying at Hawley Farms Glamping Site without finances hindering them from coming.

Clinton Lake (45 min. away)

Nestled in the heart of the Midwest, right outside of Lawrence proper, you will find the beauty and call of the water. Clinton Marina has recently been taken over by a young couple Peter Meiusi and Erin Carbrey. They have had a love for the water and have used that to create a community on Clinton Lake. With summer just around the corner, they wanted to create even more of a community with the beginning of their summer events: First Fridays, where there will be live music, food trucks, and local brews. You will definitely want to save the date for July 16-17 because you will be able to view Jetski Races. While you can rent a boat for the day, they also know about people’s love for the water and are starting a boat membership service at the marina, nocoastboatclub.com. Pay a monthly membership fee to reserve a beautifully maintained boat, ask to have food delivered by their on-site deli, and you get to enjoy the water, boats and all the sports that go along with it without having to do any of the work and maintenance. The campgrounds are pristine, and the sand beach is perfect for a day of swimming. Basically, it’s a no-lose situation to visit Clinton Lake, so you better have it on your to-visit list this upcoming warm season!

All in all, no matter where your adventure takes you, know that Kansas City and the surrounding areas have a lot to offer.
